The Telematics Data Dictionary provides a common set of data definitions to facilitate the collection, exchange and use of data and information between:

  • Telematics systems and services

  • Related intelligent technologies

  • Cooperative ITS (C-ITS) applications.

The Telematics Data Dictionary forms part of the National Telematics Framework, enabling

  • Alignment with international frameworks and standards

  • Greater interoperability across individual systems and services

  • Stakeholders using telematics and related intelligent technologies – and C-ITS applications – to adopt a consistent approach to data consistent approach to data and information management.

The Telematics Data Dictionary enables greater consistency through the definition of:

  • Communication protocols (common language)

  • Data set forms (common set of words)

  • Meanings and interpretations (common word definitions)

  • Accessibility and use (common approach to the access and use of data and information).

Like any dictionary - which must remain up-to-date with evolutions in spoken and written words - TCA will update the Telematics Data Dictionary over time to respond to new applications of telematics and related intelligent technologies.

Using the Telematics Data Dictionary

The Telematics Data Dictionary is intended for use by developers, implementers and maintainers of telematics applications.

Data formats used in established telematics applications can be aligned with the Dictionary.

Conformance with the Telematics Data Dictionary enables multiple applications to operate from a single system or service, consistent with the principles of the National Telematics Framework.
