Type-Approved OBM Systems

The following is useful information about OBM systems – please note there are three categories of type-approved OBM systems to cater for different uses.

To participate in an application or scheme of the NTF that uses a Smart OBM system, you also need a certified Application Service Provider (ASP) who supports the OBM system.

MSU = Mass Sensor Unit.

A Mass Sensor Unit is fitted to each axle group to measure the mass of individual axle groups.

ECU = Electronic Control Unit.

The Electronic Control Unit controls the operation of a Smart OBM system and digitally records mass measurements from MSUs.

TCA Type-Approved Smart OBM System Category C

TCA also type-approves Smart OBM systems to Category C. Currently, there are no type-approved OBM systems at Category C, however you can find out more about what to expect from a Smart OBM (Category C).

Certificate of Conformance

A Certificate of Conformance for each TCA-approved OBM system will be made available by the OBM supplier (or associated agent, distributor or retailer) at the point of supply to transport operators of each OBM system.

The current cost to the OBM supplier for each certificate of conformance is AUD $20 (excl GST).
