Monitoring vehiclesWithin the Intelligent Access Program (IAP), the participating heavy vehicle is monitored using telematics services with an in-vehicle-unit (IVU). The IVU is supplied and operated by an IAP Service Provider. It is expected an IAP Service Provider will come from private sector companies that may already provide telematics services to transport operators such as fleet management
The IVU is used to monitor parameters of interest, such as position and time. This monitoring process makes it possible to ensure the vehicle is operating as it should, that is, in complying with the conditions of access established by the relevant jurisdiction (road authority) under a particular IAP Application. The data is stored within the IVU and is communicated to an IAP Service Provider using already established Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), GPRS or other methods. |
