Benefits Participants in the Intelligent Access Program (IAP) will soon realise the benefits that the program provides in terms of business performance opportunities, safety, efficiency and productivity. In reaping the benefits they will also recognise the vital role they will play in sustaining our national road network. Benefits to the transport operator Generally speaking, transport operators, who participate in IAP, are granted enhanced access to the road network by the relevant jurisdiction (road authority). This means that transport operators may be able to travel on routes they would not otherwise be allowed to access.
The voluntary nature of the IAP means that transport operators need to make a commercial decision and determine if the benefits of joining outweigh the costs of participation. Schemes and permits made available by jurisdictions may suit some transport operators but not others. However, the IAP can be used by individual transport operators as a means of negotiating specific access conditions with road authorities to suit their specific business operations.
Benefits to jurisdictions as stewards of the road network Provides jurisdictions with a method to better manage and provide for the growing transport task. In doing so, ensuring that any improved access has the necessary compliance assurance.
