TCA congratulates RTA on new HML route confirmation service

Transport Certification Australia Limited (TCA), the company implementing the Intelligent Access Program (IAP), has congratulated the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) on the announcement of its new Higher Mass Limits (HML) route confirmation service, highlighting it as a further example of the RTA’s commitment to assisting transport operators to make informed decisions about fully enrolling in the IAP.
 
According to the RTA, the service will provide transport operators with the ability to obtain formal confirmation of the availability of HML access on specific roads or routes before making a decision to engage an IAP Service Provider.

In April, following TCA’s announcement of Sigtec Pty Ltd as the first IAP Service Provider, the RTA announced that transport operators have until 31 May 2008 to pre-enrol for the IAP.

According to the RTA, this ‘last chance’ extension provides a final opportunity for transport operators to preenrol vehicles and gain the benefits of the transition period.

The transition period, which comes to a close on 30 June 2009, is intended to provide pre-enrolled transport operators with a reasonable period of time to make a fully informed business decision on the benefits of fully enrolling under the IAP.

TCA Chief Executive Officer Mr Chris Koniditsiotis congratulated the RTA on the arrangements and services it is offering transport operators.

“Providing transport operators with a reasonable timeframe in which to make their decisions about IAP participation has always been an important part of the IAP and the arrangements and services being offered by the RTA are an excellent example of this,” he said.

Mr Koniditsiotis also emphasised the importance TCA continues to place on providing choice to transport operators.

“Giving transport operators a competitive choice in IAP services is also one of TCA’s main objectives and we are working with our Applicants towards achieving that.

“However, as I have said previously, it has always been TCA’s position that the time taken to achieve certification is dependent on the progression and advancement of each Applicant; it is not something dictated by TCA or predetermined timelines,” Mr Koniditsiotis said.

TCA anticipates announcing further IAP Service Providers over the coming months as they meet the IAP certification requirements.

The dedicated IAP website, www.IAP.gov.au, has IAP Service Provider contact details as well as information about the IAP in NSW, including links to the RTA’s website.
