TCA announces Sigtec as first IAP Service Provider
 10 April 2008

Transport Certification Australia Limited (TCA), the company administering the Intelligent Access Program (IAP), today announced Sigtec Pty Ltd as the first IAP Service Provider, moving the IAP into its ‘live’ phase.

The announcement follows Sigtec meeting the due diligence, probity, financial, functional and technical requirements required by TCA under the IAP Service Provider certification process.

TCA Chief Executive Officer Mr Chris Koniditsiotis said the announcement was an important occasion for the IAP and for road transport in Australia.

“Announcing the first IAP Service Provider represents a significant milestone for TCA, the IAP and the road transport industry, and Sigtec should take great pride in its success,” Mr Koniditsiotis said.

Founded in 1982, Sigtec is an Australian-based systems integrator and software development company specialising in computer-aided dispatch, event notification and GPS
location-based solutions for the transport, service, utilities, government, public safety (including the emergency services environment) and public transport markets.

According to Sigtec, it has delivered fleet management and tracking solutions to over 50,000 vehicles for the transport, utilities, government, public safety and taxi industries and markets its solutions in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, and South East Asia.

A voluntary program, the IAP uses the Global Navigational Satellite System to monitor heavy vehicles’ road use, giving transport operators flexible access to the Australian road network to suit their specific business and operational needs.

In return, the IAP provides road authorities with greater confidence that heavy vehicles are complying with the agreed road access conditions.

Only IAP Service Providers certified by TCA can supply transport operators with IAP services. IAP Service Providers can be identified by the IAP Certification Symbol.

According to Mr Koniditsiotis, the IAP has an important role in achieving a win-win outcome in addressing the need for enhanced heavy vehicle access and issues of infrastructure, safety, environment and community.

“In the IAP, road authorities have a tool which has the potential to deliver benefits in heavy vehicle productivity and efficiency while at the same time enabling better management of our roads and infrastructure,” he said.

“The IAP is all about ensuring the right vehicle is on the right road at the right time.”

Mr Koniditsiotis said he was looking forward to introducing further IAP Service Providers to transport operators as they achieve the certification requirements.

“Giving transport operators a competitive choice in IAP services has always been one of TCA’s main objectives and we are working with our other Applicants towards achieving that.

“It has always been TCA’s position that the time taken to achieve certification is dependent on the progression and advancement of each Applicant; it is not something dictated by timelines.”

TCA anticipates announcing further IAP Service Providers over the coming months as they meet the IAP certification requirements.

As part of the progression to live IAP, TCA has launched a dedicated IAP website, www.IAP.gov.au, designed to be a single gateway to all things IAP, including IAP Service Provider details.
