IAP on the agenda at the Australian Roads Summit 2007
Monday, 5 March 2007 The Intelligent Access Program (IAP) was on the agenda at the Australian Roads Summit 2007 which was held in Sydney.
Chief Executive Officer, Mr Chris Koniditsiotis, presented the IAP to senior level transport industry representatives saying the IAP provided a ‘win-win’ solution for both transport operators and government road authorities when it comes to managing the growing freight task.
Mr Koniditsiotis told the audience that the IAP is not a piecemeal reform, rather a paradigm shift in negotiating heavy vehicle access.
“The IAP moves beyond the existing restricted access regimes, allowing improved access to existing heavy vehicles and access to vehicles that otherwise would not be granted providing for productivity gains.
"IAP permits the transport operator to demonstrate compliance to the conditions of access granted. In return it provides road authorities with more confidence that heavy vehicles are complying with the agreed conditions of access.
“In addressing a specific problem (of improved vehicle access) we have built a framework that provides flexibility to deal with emerging and new issues.
“The IAP is not a ‘one trick pony’. The IAP framework builds on existing telematics capabilities and provides a model for consideration of other important policy issues going forward”, Mr Koniditsiotis told the audience.
During the summit, Australian Government Minister for Local Government, Territories and Roads, Jim Lloyd (a keynote speaker) made a visit to the Intelligent Access Program (IAP) display stand and met with TCA’s National Manager, Transport Relations, Kenneth Cleverdon.
