Request for Comment: IAP Self-Declaration Function

Wednesday, 30 August 2006

Transport Certification Australia Limited (TCA) recently announced that a new function will be added to the Intelligent Access Program (IAP), allowing for the self-declaration of information.

TCA engaged with jurisdictions, transport industry and the telematics industry in identifying the need for this additional self-decleration function. It found that at this stage, the ability to self-declare vehicle configuration, total combination mass and general comments would benefit the transport industry and jurisdictions as it would provide greater functionality to the IAP, which will increase the range of IAP Applications and uses that can be implemented.

The new function has been designed to be simple and at the same time address the requirements of IAP Applications.  TCA is updating the IAP Functional and Technical Specification, IAP guidelines and other documents to incorporate the self-declaration function.

TCA is seeking additional feedback or comments from the transport and telematics industries to ensure that they understand the self-declaration function and how it will operate in practise.

The Request for Comment IAP Self-Declaration Function document describes how the self-declaration function will operate.

TCA would appreciate any feedback and comments by Friday 29 September 2006 to be sent to Mr Steve Coleman - General Manager, IAP Operations, email: stevec@tca.gov.au.
