Request for Comment: Interoperability of Trailer Monitoring DevicesWednesday, 21 March 2007
On behalf of Australia’s road transport authorities, Transport Certification Australia Limited (TCA) is undertaking a study to develop a national standard that would permit the interoperability between any Intelligent Access Program (IAP) certified in-vehicle unit (IVU) and Trailer Monitoring Devices (TMDs).
There is significant evidence from both industry and government to show the benefits of a national standard would permit greater operational functionality and optimisation of use of heavy vehicle trailers. Additionally, road transport authorities see this as providing greater flexibility in IAP based access conditions.
As part of the study, TCA is providing an Industry Capability report on the current uses and technologies associated with capturing trailer information.
To ensure that TCA fully understands the industry uses and service provider’s solutions for TMDs, feedback and comments are sought from:
- The transport industry as end users of trailer monitoring systems – ideally undertaking transport tasks on public roads
- The telematics industry
- Trailer manufacturers and TMD developers and suppliers
The Request for Comment: Interoperability of Trailer Monitoring Devices and the Trailer Monitoring Industry Capability Study broadly described the topics that will need to be considered to achieve interoperability of TMDs and poses a number of questions to the identified target audience.
TCA would appreciate any feedback and comments by Friday – 27 April 2007 to be sent to Mr Shaun Talko – Senior Operations Engineer, email: tca@tca.gov.au.
