IAP Certification symbol: a guide for transport operators

Friday, 29 June 2007

Transport Certification Australia Limited (TCA) has developed an IAP Certification symbol which will be issued to companies once they become IAP Service Providers.

The symbol means that a company has been certified by TCA and tested to ensure it can meet the necessary standards required to perform and function within the IAP. It also means it can offer IAP services to transport operators. So operators should look for the certification symbol when purchasing any GPS equipment for the IAP.

The IAP is scheduled to go live later this year once the first wave of IAP Service Providers are announced by TCA.

Transport operators pre-enrolled for Higher Mass Limits (HML) under the IAP in News South Wales are amongst the first to receive information on the IAP Certification symbol and an update on the IAP.  This coincides with the release of information on the 'Countdown to IAP'  from the Roads and Traffic Authority, which details arrangements ahead of, and subsequent to the introduction of the IAP.

Transport operators that seek to retain their HML access entitlements are required to engage an IAP Service Provider within a defined transition period prescribed by the RTA.

In getting ready for the IAP, transport operators are encouraged to start their research now. They should question their current telematics providers if they have applied to TCA and if they are currently undertaking TCA’s stringent certification process.
