Transport Certification Australia Limited (TCA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Charles Karl to the role of Manager – Major Projects, initially overseeing TCA’s vehicle on-board mass monitoring and trailer monitoring device interoperability projects as well as a number of other Intelligent Access Program (IAP) initiatives.
Prior to joining TCA, Dr Karl was Principal Engineer (Transport Operations) for the ARRB Group and has a total of 26 years engineering experience, including 14 years working in the area of Intelligent Transport Systems.
He has also previously undertaken significant work for both Austroads and TCA, including the development of the initial IAP specification.
Welcoming Dr Karl to TCA, Chief Executive Officer Mr Chris Koniditsiotis said he was looking forward to the qualities Dr Karl would bring to his role.
“I am very pleased to welcome Charles to TCA. I am sure that his wealth of industry knowledge and experience as well as a hard nose to project delivery, will enable him to make a valuable contribution as Manager – Major Projects,” Mr Koniditsiotis said.
“As well as responsibility for the projects currently underway, Charles will have an important strategic role in taking the IAP forward,” he said.
Dr Karl said he was keen to explore the potential of the IAP in his new role.
“I am looking forward to working closely with the transport industry to develop a number of new applications on the IAP platform,” he said.
Dr Karl said he believed the IAP could provide benefits not only to the transport industry, but to all road users.
Requests for comment on both the Heavy Vehicle On-Board Mass Monitoring and Trailer Monitoring Device Interoperability reports closed last Friday, 26 October .
Dr Karl is now working through the feedback received from industry and will be coordinating the next phase of TCA’s activities on the two projects, including the establishment of a road authority project reference group for each initiative.
