IAP at BESTUFS seminarDr Charles Karl, Manager – Major Projects with Transport Certification Australia Limited (TCA), will be making a presentation on the Intelligent Access Program (IAP) at the BESTUFS National Seminar on Urban Freight to be held in Melbourne on Tuesday 11 March 2008.
According to background information provided by seminar organisers, the European Co-ordination Action on ‘BEST Urban Freight Solutions’ (BESTUFS) is funded by the European Commission (DG Transport and Energy) and is active from 2000 until 2008. The main objective is to identify, describe and disseminate best practices, success criteria and bottlenecks of urban freight transport solutions.
Organisers say one important outcome of BESTUFS work has been a Good Practice Guide, and based on the information given in the guide, BESTUFS is organising the seminar in Melbourne . City logistics solutions, both on general and local national level and thereby involving national project demonstrations or peculiarities will be addressed. It is expected the seminar will be attended by local government, consultants, transport operators and transport and city planners.
The IAP is a voluntary program which provides heavy vehicles with improved access to Australia’s road network in return for monitoring of compliance with specific access conditions by vehicle telematics solutions. In his presentation, Dr Karl will be providing an overview of the IAP as well as an update on other TCA projects.
