IAP pre-enrollment numbers ramp up Monday, 29 January 2007
As pre-enrollment numbers ramp up in the first major Intelligent Access Program (IAP) application, the New South Wales Road Transport Association (NSWRTA), the transport industry advisor, is encouraging its members to gain a better understanding for the IAP.
New South Wales is seeing a particularly strong interest in the IAP with about 1500 vehicles pre-enrolled for HML under the IAP. This is driven by the fact that the productivity and commercial benefits to the road transport sector to be gained by obtaining improved access to the road network are simply too large to ignore.
With such as strong interest, transport operators are encouraged to contact NSWRTA which can provide expert knowledge and assistance to ensure transport operators:
- meet the regulatory requirements for HML
- successfully pre-enrol for the IAP
- negotiate HML access where its need most
- Obtain advice on how to negotiate access with key decision makers, and coordinate HML access requests with other transport operators.
On 1 July 2006, the NSW Government provided a significant commercial benefit to transport operators by expanding HML access arrangements in NSW – on the condition that vehicles pre-enrol for the IAP. From 31 December 2006 Higher Mass Limit access arrangements in NSW were further expanded to include approved routes into and within Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong.
These arrangements are exclusively for vehicles pre-enrolled for Higher Mass Limits under the IAP. Vehicles that pre-enrol will be issued with a permit to operate at Higher Mass Limits on approved routes in NSW as a transitional arrangement prior to the availability of the IAP.
Further information can be found online at www.rta.nsw.gov.au, by phone on 1300 364 847 or by email or by contacting the NSWRTA on free call 1300 679 782.
